The MMSD Summer Food Service provides free meals to low-income children during school vacations. More than 15,000 children eat school lunch every day when school is in session, and about half of them receive their meals free or at a reduced price due to low household income. The summer program offers those children nutritious food when school is not in session. Nationally, the SFSP served approximately 129 million meals in 2008. Wisconsin served in excess of 1.7 million meals at 526 sites operated by 106 sponsoring organizations. Questions about the Madison School District's SFSP can be directed to Iris Tirado, (608) 204-4007 or Mary Engelhart, (608)204-4005.
Summer Food Program operates for 8 weeks during the summer vacation. Meal service will begin on June 22, 2009 and continue through August 14, 2009. There will be NO meal service on Friday, July 3, 2009.
